Green-e Certifies Mack Services Group's 100% Renewable Power
August 12, 1999
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Mack Services Group recently joined the ranks of power companies offering Green-e certified electricity in Pennsylvania. The Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) announced today that their Green-e Program granted certification to the Mack Services Group for its 100% Renewable Power product. To date, every customer in Pennsylvania who switched to renewable power is receiving Green-e certified power.
"We are very proud to have gained acceptance in the Green-e program," said Scott McCorry of Mack Services Group. "With the Green-e seal of approval, our customers are assured our product meets Green-e's high consumer protection and environmental standards."
"The Center for Resource Solutions is pleased that Mack Services is participating in the Green-e program with their 100% Renewable product," said Jan Hamrin, CRS Executive Director. "Mack Services now joins with the other companies offering Green-e certified products in Pennsylvania to help build a thriving renewable power market."
Pennsylvania's electricity market has been deregulated since 1998, giving consumers the option to choose their power provider. CRS launched Green-e in California in November 1997 and in Pennsylvania in October 1998. Currently nine retail power companies are offering fifteen different Green-e certified electricity options to approximately 120,000 customers nationwide. Green-e certification will soon also be available in New Jersey and New England.
To be eligible for Green-e certification, at least half of an electricity product's energy supply must come from renewable resources such as wind, solar, geothermal, biomass or small hydro. Any non-renewable portion of the product must be as clean or cleaner than the traditional power mix and none of the electricity for the product can be purchased directly from a nuclear facility.
CRS verifies that companies are meeting their requirements through an annual verification process by an independent auditor. In addition, CRS will conduct a biannual review of Mack Services' marketing materials to ensure they are adhering to Green-e's Code of Conduct. More information on Green-e is available at the Green-e website.
