Green-e Certifies Green Mountain.com's Solar for the Futuresm
April 14, 2000
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - The Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) announced today that Green Mountain.com's 100 percent renewable energy product, Solar for the Futuresm has been certified by the
Green-e Program. When Green Mountain.com customers see the Green-e certification, they can be sure they are purchasing electricity from reliable renewable resources that meet strict consumer protection and environmental standards. The Green-e certification program is administered by non-profit CRS.
Solar for the Futuresm is the first power blend in the nation that specifically supports the development of new solar facilities. The new solar facility for Green Mountain.com's energy is being built on top of PowerLight Corporation's solar panel manufacturing plant in Berkeley, California. It will be a 100KW facility - the Bay Area's largest solar array.
"The launch of Solar for the Future means that Californians can not only be part of bringing new renewable generation on line but can specifically support the emerging solar energy market. We welcome Green Mountain.com's Solar for the Futuresm to our list of certified electricity options," said Jan Hamrin, Executive Director of CRS.
"At GreenMountain, we are out to change the way power is made,'' said Julie Blunden, GreenMountain.com's western regional president. "In support of Earth Day 2000's Clean Energy Now Agenda, GreenMountain.com is proud to announce the development of this new 100kW Solar Facility. This is a real life illustration of how customer choice in a deregulated energy market can support the development of clean renewable energy sources."
To receive Green-e certification, at least half of an electricity product's energy supply must come from eligible renewable resources such as wind, solar, geothermal, biomass or small-scale hydro projects. Green Mountain.com's Solar for the Futuresm is based on 100 percent renewable energy including 5% new renewable resources; and is currently available to consumers in California.
Under the terms of the Green-e Program, Green Mountain.com agrees to abide by the Green-e Code of Conduct, including submitting marketing materials to CRS to make sure customers receive truthful information about Green Mountain.com's certified electricity offering. GreenMountain.com will also undergo an annual verification process to document that the company purchased enough renewable electricity to meet its Solar for the Futuresm marketing claims.
