Latest Green Mountain Electricity Offerings Gain Green-e Certification
May 3, 1999

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - The Center for Resource Solutions announced today that Green Mountain Energy Resources (Burlington, VT) has received certification for its 100% Renewable Energy 2.0 and Wind for the Future 2.0sm products under the Green-e Renewable Electricity Program. The two products, each based on 100% renewable energy supply, are the newest entrants to the Green Mountain product line being offered to electricity customers in the state of California.

"The Center for Resource Solutions is pleased to receive Green Mountain's continued commitment to the Green-e program and to offering renewable-based electricity options to Californians," said Jan Hamrin, Executive Director of the Center for Resource Solutions. "CRS remains committed to working with Green Mountain and other green power marketers offering certified electricity products to ensure that California customers can choose among high value renewable-based electricity offerings with verified renewable energy supply."

"Green Mountain is committed to ensuring that its customers get what they sign up for and the Green-E is the sign of that commitment," said Rick Counihan, Green Mountain's Director of California Public Affairs.

To receive Green-e certification, at least half of a certified product's energy supply must come from eligible renewable resources such as wind, solar, geothermal, biomass or small hydroelectric projects. Any non-renewables used to supply the product must result in less air pollution than California's tradition power mix, and none of the electricity for the product can be purchased from a nuclear facility. Green Mountain also agrees to abide by the Green-e program's code of conduct governing its treatment of its customers.

Under the terms of the program, Green Mountain's marketing materials will be regularly reviewed by the Center for Resource Solutions to make certain the company is not making fraudulent claims; Green Mountain also will undergo an audit at the end of the year documenting that the company has purchased enough renewable energy to meet its marketing claims. First launched in California in November 1997, Green-e certification is also available in Pennsylvania, where four products are certified, and soon will be available in New England. More information on Green-e is available at the Green-e website.
