Green-e Renewable Energy Standard for Canada and the United States Updated to Version 3.4

Update clarifies existing policies, protects market integrity, and allows for additional flexibility with eligibility criteria The Green-e® Governance Board voted to adopt various items brought forward during and following the Third Quarter 2019 Governance Board meeting requiring the Green-e Renewable Energy Standard for Canada and the United States to be updated to Version 3.4 on November 12, 2019.

These changes are intended to provide clarifications of existing policies, establish new policies to protect market integrity, and allow for additional flexibility with meeting certain eligibility criteria. Version 3.4 includes the following changes:

  1. Changes to eligibility of certain hydropower resources
  2. Updates to Appendix A.2 concerning the readmission of New Jersey into the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative without the adoption of a voluntary renewable energy set aside as well as the cancellation of the Maryland voluntary renewable energy set aside

Version 3.4 of the Standard is available online along with a redlined Version 3.3 at Green-e Energy Documents, as well as the Green-e Energy Participant Portal. The Standard is part of your contract(s) for Green-e Energy certification. Version 3.4 goes into effect immediately and will impact certified sales in the 2019 reporting year.
