Green-e Renewable Energy Standard for Taiwan ROC

Updated November 22, 2019

The Green-e™ Renewable Energy Standard for Taiwan ("Taiwan Standard") is being developed by Center for Resource Solutions, and a revised draft is available for comment until January 21, 2020; see below for documents and instructions. The Taiwan Standard is a region-specific certification Standard that will facilitate Green-e™ Energy certification of renewable energy products throughout Taiwan ROC. The intent of this and other Green-e™ certification Standards is to accelerate the development of renewable generation and renewable electricity markets, and to provide consumers a meaningful mechanism through which they can express demand for renewable electricity.

Based in the U.S., Green-e™ is the largest third-party consumer protection program in North America. Through Green-e,™ Center for Resource Solutions ensures that renewable energy sold to consumers and businesses meets the highest, most stringent quality standards and is marketed and sold accurately and transparently. Green-e™ does not issue or track renewable energy certificates, but is an independent certification program.

The Taiwan Standard includes guidance on:

  • Interaction of renewable energy purchasing and local laws and policies
  • Use of renewable energy tracking systems
  • Use of on-site generators
  • Renewable resource types to develop in Taiwan ROC
  • Renewable electricity purchasing types

The accompanying draft Terms of Reference document for the Taiwan Standard explains key issues the Taiwan Standard addresses, including market value, sustainability, comparison to and compatibility with other existing relevant standards, implementation risk and how to address such risk.
